Sumatra

The world is big, and the task of finishing the great commission is vast. There are still thousands of unreached people groups all over the world. On top of his, there are thousands of places where the churches are in desperate need of greater discipleship. So where is one local church supposed to start?

We have decided to start with one specific focus. In the coming years, we hope to make a major impact on the lives of the people of Sumatra, Indonesia. As a local church, we believe that we may be able (with God's help) to increase our impact on the world by sending as many missionaries as possible to the largest Muslim country on earth (Indonesia), and to the island with the most unreached people groups (Sumatra).

We believe this strategy is Christ-honoring for the following reasons:

  1. The great need of Sumatra, Indonesia.
  2. The great benefit of like-minded missionaries in one place (encouragement, fellowship, etc).
  3. The great opportunities for ongoing pastoral care of the missionary teams. We hope to send one Immanuel elder over to Sumatra each year to encourage our missionaries (in addition to other support trips as the opportunities arise).
