Year By Year
_________________________________________________________________
Year 1: Mastered By Romans
Pastoral training can, unintentionally, often lead men into a sea of books and away from the text of Scripture; other times it can lead men into viewing Scripture simply as a subject to be mastered. We’re committed to ensuring that this will not happen to our apprentices. Therefore for the entire first year, the men will aim to drink deeply from the rich theology of the book of Romans by reading, memorizing, discussing and applying this powerful book together. Pastor Ryan will lead a weekly lecture and discussion on the office of a pastor-elder, the study and interpretation of the Bible, and on the text of the book of Romans (32 weeks). Apprentices will be expected to read the entire book of Romans multiple times while also memorizing chapters 1-6.
Year 2: Theology and Discipleship
While continuing to memorize the book of Romans (chapter 7-12) and read through the Bible, 2nd year participants will read theological assignments that coordinate with lectures and discussions led by Pastor Ben Hedrick every other week (20 weeks). But this is not just about personal study, but also putting the Word to use. Therefore every "off week" the Apprentice will meet with a disciplee to walk them through these truths of God's Word and help apply them to their life. Also, by the end of this second year, apprentices will also have begun pursuing observation and participation in the various ministries in the life of the church.
Year 3: Life & Ministry
The third year aims to provide apprentices with the wisdom and experience necessary to put their biblical
and theological knowledge to use in the church. Apprentices will finish their memorization of the book of Romans (chapters 13-16) as well as read through the Bible once more for the year. Additionally, apprentices will attend weekly lectures on a variety of practical ministry topics, including Justification and Regeneration, Ecclesiology, Biblical Counseling, Preaching & Teaching, Missions; and Apologetics. The third year will culminate with the personal assessment by the elders, followed by a possible affirmation and recommendation to the apprentice for his next steps in his ministry to the Lord and His Church.
