Building a Community from All Cultures Where Christ is King

As Immanuel, we are seeking to build a place where a multitude of extremely different kinds of people live in community together as equals. We are seeking to build a community from all cultures where Christ is King! We long to see this church be a place where people from the wrong side of the tracks, and the so-called right side of the tracks grow together into one united community. We long to be a place where African-Americans, Latinos, Asians, and whites, rich and poor, successful and struggling, educated and uneducated all find a home and a community!

This unified community of diverse people is not an idle dream. Jesus has done everything it takes to make this kind of community possible. He has reconciled us to God and to each other. The reason the world is so full of division is because all of us are in rebellion against God. We simply want to live lives our own way, without following His word. When we refuse to follow His word, and we pursue our own self-centered desires, we wind up at odds with other people. Jesus died on the Cross to reconcile us to God and He empowers us to reconcile with other people. He loved us enough to take all the anger God had towards us onto Himself. By doing this He reconciled us to God! He also put new, resurrection life in us so that we would have the kind of love it takes to be united to other people. It is because of Him that we can enjoy a relationship with God and community with each other!

How do you build a community from all cultures where Christ is King?

It’s both impossible and simple. Building this kind of community is not possible for at least two reasons: no one naturally seeks God, and even once we have been converted, Jesus told Christians plainly: without me you can do nothing. Since non-Christians are not interested in God and Christians have no power to do anything on their own, the task of building a supernatural community where all kinds of people come together to obey Jesus is impossible.

At the same time it’s quite simple. It’s simple because nothing is impossible for God. What man cannot do, God does! This is an essential point for you to grasp in order to understand Immanuel. We believe we are attempting the impossible, but we believe what we are attempting is possible with God. And because we are attempting what is only possible with God, it is vital that we do God’s work God’s way! This is what keeps our work simple. We trust that God has revealed to us the things that he has promised to bless. So, trusting Him, we commit ourselves to five basic practices that we believe God will use to advance His kingdom through us.

Truth that Transforms Lives

We are a community centered on God’s truth revealed in the Bible. We gather every week to hear it taught and we speak it to each other throughout the week in our Gospel Community Groups.

Community that Displays Christ

We strive to put Jesus on display by being a community that meets one another’s spiritual and physical needs by giving of ourselves each and every day.

Prayer that Cries ‘Your Kingdom Come’

Jesus said, “Apart from me you can do nothing”. He also said, “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” We pray together every Sunday morning to take Him up on that promise!

Worship that Feeds the Soul

We meet Sundays to read the Bible, preach the Bible, hear the Bible, pray the Bible, sing the Bible, and be reminded of Jesus in baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Worship like this feeds the soul!

Mission that Welcomes Everybody In

Jesus told us to go out and help others follow Him. We live this mission in our daily lives through Gospel Community Groups where we make and teach disciples through community, care, and mission.
